Scot Ganow spoke to the Cincinnati Bar Association on June 30, 2016.  Scot provided an overview of state and federal privacy laws as part of the CBA's day-long CLE session entitled, "What You Don't Know Can Hurt You: Social Media and Data Security 101."

Scot Ganow presented at the University of Dayton School of Law's 26th Annual Program in Law and Technology on June 3, 2016.  This year, Scot led a discussion on cyber insurance and also moderated a panel entitled, "The Perfect Storm," in which he led the panel through an examination on privacy in America in the wake of the Apple/FBI engagement over cellphone encryption.

Jeff Ireland is chairing the Friends of Levitt Pavilion Dayton Board, a group that is working to bring a Levitt Pavilion to Dayton. Levitt Pavilions are located in seven other cities and they provide 50 free concerts per summer. Experiences in other cities demonstrate that Levitt Pavilions revitalize urban areas, enhance community building and provide economic development. Jeff and others are seeking to raise $5 million for construction and they recently received a check (and a lot of local publicity) when CareSource agreed to provide a $750,000 grant. Jeff and many others in the firm are active in various community activities in Dayton.

On June 1, Zachary Heck, in his capacity as co-chair, hosted an International Association of Privacy Professionals KnowledgeNet program in our Cincinnati office.  The program was entitled "Crisis Management in the Era of Data Breaches," and featured Zach moderating a discussion with a Washington D.C. public relations and incident response specialist, about crisis management and PR issues that arise during security incidents.  The program emphasized the importance for companies to have an incident response plan, a consistent message both inside and outside the company, and cooperation between legal counsel and communication specialists.

This month, the American Bar Association's tyl periodical published Zachary Heck's latest article, "Will Virtual Reality Transform Real-World Laws?"  Zach's article detailed some of the latest innovations in virtual reality technology, and the impact those innovations could have on traditional copyright, tort, and criminal laws.  Zach also explained that greater integration into the virtual world raises increased data privacy and cybersecurity concerns as users invest greater reliance onto digital platforms.
