Ohio Appellate Court Affirms Dismissal of Defamation Claims for Lack of Personal Jurisdiction

Written by Erin Rhinehart | June 28, 2018

Earlier this month, Ohio's Second District Court of Appeals affirmed the dismissal of defamation and invasion of privacy claims for lack of personal jurisdiction in  James, et al. v. Hoffman, et al., 2018-Ohio-2422.*  The case is significant because it clarifies what activities, including online activities, are sufficient (or insufficient) to confer the requisite "minimum contacts" necessary to show a court has personal jurisdiction over defendants in a defamation lawsuit.
